Our Apprentice Socially Strong
Every year the trainees from Mehler Texnologies have a ‘social week’ where they help by charitable projects. Therefore the six becoming industrial management assistants Glena Poschen, Simon Roebers, Elena Seidenberg, Alexander Lobback, Katrin Rütten and Daniel Frenken are release from work in the week from 30.11.2015 until 05.12.2015. They helped in an organization which calls “die Tafel” where they distribute food to needy people, and in the SPS Foundation, a social group which help refugees.
A few weeks before beginning the apprentices start to plan and prepare it all alone. This means they have to find two social organizations and talk about everything with each other. Thereby they work on their personal and social skills.
Everywhere you hear of insufficient supply from people who need help. Many refugee accommodations haven’t enough financial resources and volunteers. That is why the apprentices decided for support them. Therefore, the young people got an insight in the emergency accommodation in Niederheid and in the refugees shared apartment in Lindern. They do cooking, playing and learning German together. Thereby the trainees have got a big insight in the refugees live.
Also before the big number of refugees there were people in our society who search for help. In our daily lives we don’t notice this group of people and give them too little attention. To help this financially and often socially weak people went the other three trainees to “die Tafel” in Heinsberg. There they collect in supermarkets food which normally goes into the rubbish. The quantity of consumable food which is thrown away is frighteningly.
The goal of the social week is that the apprentices learn early what it means to take on responsibility for something. So it’s easier for them to edit new projects or tasks at work. Furthermore they develop themselves. Important too, are the experiences which they don’t get in the normal work day. Therefore it is good, that Mehler Texnologies gives time for the apprentices to help in social projects and inform about world problems. Beside the school, work and hobbies it’s difficult to take time for doing something good for the society. For this reason this project is carried out since three years. It leaves a good impression by the apprentices as well as the other colleagues too, that all people were able to spend something.
In the opinion of the trainees Mehler Texnologies as a worldwide employer is a company which has influence to the society. For this reason we want to give something back where it is needed and arrived well.
