08/05/2008 - Undersea power cable
In a project called 'NorNed', Dutch company Oil Control Systems laid an undersea electricity cable from northern Holland to Norway. For part of this work they used inflatable floating outriggers, as several areas of Dutch coastal waters are too shallow for the normal cable-laying ships.

The inflatable 'Twin-boom 600' made by von De Jong Zeilmakerij from VALMEX® boat 7318 can carry a load of up to 450kg. Using this, Oil Control Systems was able to pull the power cable, which weighs 100kg per metre, across the shallow waters. Once the cable had been moved into place and securely fixed in position near the shore, one of the two chambers was then deflated respectively one after the other and the cable thus submerged metre by metre.
